About

Love making bags of all kinds? Curious about how to start? Got some great tips you’d like to share? Join us for monthly discussion about making bags!

This group is guided by the folks who come. Each month has a topic—maybe a presentation, maybe just discussion—plus show-and-tell. This is a great place to ask fellow attendees your bag-making questions. Bring your bags, your questions, and your successes!

Possible Topics:

  • Zippers! Continuous, closed end, two-way, metal, plastic, metal-look … why is my zipper is so ripply? And what about those darn pulls?
  • Different kinds of stabilizers—are you a Decovil devotee? Or a Soft ‘n’ Stable supporter? What do you like?
  • Copying bags: tips for copying the looks you love. Have you made a Birkin?
  • Favorite patterns
  • Making wallets
  • Hardware
  • Making holes in your bag, on purpose
  • Lining techniques: turned bags, drop-in lining, binding the seams
  • Repairing bags
  • Your bag-making influencers
  • Favorite materials
  • Straps and handles
  • Using frames
  • Re-using pieces from thrifted bags—pros and cons

Details:

  • This study group is free for members and a $20 drop-in fee for guests.

  • Please sign up, so we know you’re coming.

Host:

Fran Fuller started sewing bags in 2013, and she was hooked from the first one (a clutch with a frame). She has made a million mistakes since then—and has had some successes—and learned from each one.
