About

The instructor is not available to teach this month. This class will be rescheduled.

Build a generously sized worm bin using a plan developed by Seattle Tilth, a Seattle non-profit that promotes organic gardening and farming.

The bins will be built from pressure-treated plywood and regular 2-by-4s, the materials recommended by Seattle Tilth. Completed bins are about 2 feet by 4 feet at the base and 16 inches high.

Details:

  • This class is suitable for beginners.
  • The instructor will pre-cut the plywood. For other parts and assembly, students will use the the cross cut saw, drills and impact drivers, squares, and tape measures.
  • A materials fee of $65 is payable to the instructor no less than three days before the class. Instructions will be emailed when you register. The materials fee is not refundable if you cancel less than three days before the class.
  • The worm bins are bulky.  For a separate $5 cash donation to BARN, the instructor will deliver the worm bins in her truck to homes on Bainbridge Island after the class.

Instructor: Denise Kircher, a longtime member of the BARN woodworker group, put herself through college by remodeling kitchens and bathrooms. She worked for Habitat for Humanity for several years before going to work for the Environmental Protection Agency. Since retiring from that career, she has taken several courses at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking.
