* This class has prerequisites. Please see below.
Learn the basics of designing and building Euro-style cabinets, also known as frameless cabinets, as you build one cabinet with the dimensions and combination of drawers and/or shelves that you want.
The class will start with an overview of cabinet styles, with an emphasis on Euro-style cabinets and their components. There will also be a discussion about cabinet materials and useful tools. At the first session, you will also sketch the cabinet you want to build and learn how to make a cut list and estimate the materials you will need. You will be asked to pay for the materials so that they can be ordered and delivered before the second session. Bring approximate dimensions to the class!
At the remaining sessions, you'll build your cabinet. You'll learn how to accurately and safely cut down sheets of plywood and how to assemble the pieces into a sturdy, square cabinet box. You'll also learn how to add components: shelves, doors and drawers. You'll have to install the cabinet on your own after the class, but the class will teach you the process.
Details:
- Prerequisites: This is an intermediate-level class, open to people who have taken Orientation to the Woodshop and Woodshop Tool Safety Checkout 1 & 2. Multiple sessions are listed on the Woodworking Calendar. Before you register for the cabinet class, please log in to your BARN account and click on "My event registrations" to ensure you will have completed these requirements before this class begins.
- PLEASE NOTE: The materials fee included in the registration fee covers only shop supplies. Please bring a credit or debit card to the first session so you can pay then for the plywood needed for your design. A typical cabinet requires one sheet of plywood, but what you need might vary depending on your design. Prices may change by the time of the class, but in early 2022, unfinished birch plywood, the least expensive option, was around $121 a sheet; unfinished maple was about $140. Prefinished plywood was around $133 for birch and $162 for maple.
