Debra Ruzinsky is offering a free presentation about glass artists who focus on the casting process. Planned to particularly inspire those taking the April 9th introduction to glass casting course: Small Glass Vessel Casting.

This free presentation will be an overview of some of the best artists working. From the early days of the studio glass movement to today, we will look at artists inventing techniques and processes along the way. Find out what's old and new in the fascinating world of glass casting.

Speaker Bio:

Debra Ruzinsky serves as executive director of Bainbridge Arts and Crafts on Bainbridge Island, WA. She previously served close to 4 years as director of the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN, and has had leadership roles at several other arts and community agencies around the US. Debra earned a BA in Design from UCLA and an MFA in Glass from the Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of American Craft. She had a prior career in Hollywood as a designer and maker for films, commercials, and music videos. She additionally spent 11 years as a Walt Disney Imagineer, designing for theme parks worldwide.

Debra is an active and engaged glass artist with an ongoing practice. Her works are found in numerous collections, among them the Seto City Museum collection in Seto, Japan, and the Glasmeseet Ebeltoft collection in Denmark. She has exhibited at such venues as Vis Arts in Rockville, MD, Urban Glass in Brooklyn, NY, Hawk Galleries exhibition BIGG: Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass in Columbus, OH, The Wayne Art Center exhibition Reflections in Glass in Pennsylvania, the Brattleboro Museum of Art exhibition Glass in All Senses in Vermont, and the Glass Heap Challenge exhibition at the Glass Factory Museum in Boda Glasbruk, Sweden.

Debra uses lost wax, mold-making, and casting processes to create sculptural glassworks that explore opacity and translucence, delving into ideas about belief and identity. Her works have been exhibited and collected throughout the US and internationally.
