In “Casting by Proxy” BARN Jewelry Studio members will perform the multi-task process of Casting into Metal - waxes or 3d print-outs delivered to the Jewelry Studio by Monday, July 26th. This final casting is to accommodated the students from the June Hot Wax Carving class, but other BARN community members are invited to submit waxes as well.

This Final “Casting by Proxy” event will take place on Tuesday, July 27th for sprue-ing and investing with Casting on Wednesday, July 28th. This final event will not be live streamed. Waxes submitted to the Jewelry Studio by July 26th can be cast in either Sterling Silver at $1.00/gram or in Bronze at $0.04/gram. Per-Flask Casting Fee of $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Once you have submitted the Drop-off Form, Nanz will phone or email you with what the cost will be to cast your project(s). We are only accepting checks at this time.

Details:

  • Materials Fee: Per-Flask Casting Fee of $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Metals to be cast can be either Sterling Silver at $1.00/gram or in Bronze at $0.04/gram. You will be notified of the total cost after your form and waxes have been submitted.
  • Waxes must be submitted to Nanz Aalund by Monday, July 26th. Contact: NanzA@bainbridgebarn.org. Click Here for Drop-off Form. Please print this form, fill it out and drop it off with your waxes.
  • BARN is practicing safety measures for the health and well-being of all participants, in accordance with state and CDC guidelines. Overall BARN safety policies are here.
  • Please wear closed-toe shoes. Wear hearing protectors when warranted and safety glasses; bring your own or use BARN's. Tie back long hair. Avoid loose-fitting clothing and jewelry; roll up sleeves.


Instructor Bio:

Nanz Aalund’s wide ranging career as an award-winning jewelry designer, goldsmith, and educator, all began with a high school jewelry class. After serving as a fine jewelry designer, production director, and marketing consultant for Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Tiffany & Co., Aalund went on to earned a MFA/Metals and a Masters of Education/College and Technical Teaching Curriculum (CTTC). Her book, “ A Jeweler’s Guide to Apprenticeships,” received Silver Honors in the AM&P Excel Awards in 2018.
