About

Add a splash of personality to your garden with custom-made metal and mosaic garden stakes. In this fun and hands-on two-part workshop, you'll create unique, weather-safe art pieces from start to finish.

Part 1: Metalwork Magic in the Welding Shop
Choose two designs from more than 30 available shapes, then learn to cut them out using a plasma cutter. You'll clean and deburr the metal, and tack weld each piece to a sturdy three-foot stake. Between classes it's recommended to finish the metal with a coat of protective paint. This is optional but will help with longevity in the outdoors.

Part 2: Mosaic Time in the Glass Studio
Now the real color and creativity come in! Using vibrant glass and tile, you'll mosaic your metal shapes to transform them into bold and beautiful garden art. You'll receive a grout demonstration, along with all the tools, supplies, and guidance you need to complete your pieces at home.

Instructor
Johanna Muench

Johanna Muench is an IT Strategic Advisor at Oracle and enjoys making cool things out of metal, and more recently, mosaics and fused glass. Joining BARN has helped blend all her artistic disciplines into a cohesive vision, and she can’t wait to find out what is around the next corner. Johanna can be found with hubby Dave and dog Lu, doing fun stuff with Jeeps, metal, and glass.

Instructor
Barbara Henderson

Barbara is a mosaicist with a passion for helping others express themselves through the art of mosaics. She discovered art a little later in life than lots of other people, having been distracted by corporate life, ladder climbing, and the nonsense idea that she wasn’t creative. Now her favorite thing is to watch a student realize their unique ability to produce something personal and meaningful, and to develop their own artistic vision. Her favorite saying is that “perfection can be purchased at the Dollar Store. Art and beauty are found in the unique and flawed.” She serves on a variety of boards and committees and lives in Gig Harbor with her husband and far too many dogs and chickens.
