About

In this class you will learn the full process of how to weave a sculpture out of waxed linen - how to turn up the sides of your medallion, create branches off the main sculpture, add handles, incorporate beads or fringe, and turn your creative ideas into three dimensions.

Details

  • You will need to have prior knowledge of how to twine a medallion out of waxed linen and have one to bring to the first class. Twined Waxed Linen Medallions class will be offered a few days before this class begins.
  • We will break each day for lunch. Please pack a lunch or plan to drive into town to purchase one. BARN has a microwave and a refrigerator available for your use.

Prerequisites

  • Waxed linen medallion class or comparable knowledge. You will need to know how to twine with waxed linen and have a medallion/sculpture bottom woven before the first class.

Materials

  • A $42 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers all the supplies you need, including waxed linen and tools to use during class.
  • Please weave the bottom of your sculpture (a medallion) beforehand, and bring to class.
Instructor
Katy Levit

Bainbridge Island artist Katy Levit creates hand-made, one-of-a-kind sculptures and functional pieces in both porcelain and fiber. Inspired by nature and the everyday objects around her, Katy’s work explores vulnerability, chaos, and the wonder that can be found in the ordinary. In addition to her own studio practice, Katy enjoys teaching others the delight that can be found in creating something that wasn’t there before. When Katy’s not in the studio she can be found hiking on one of the island’s forest trails or curled up with a cup of tea, a book, and a small dachshund.
