About

Help with the final transformation of rough alder slabs into polished address signs for the Ericksen Community affordable housing project being built by Housing Resources Bainbridge.

Over the past couple of weeks, BARN volunteers have flattened, patched, and smoothed the wood, which was milled from trees that grew on the property at Knechtel Way and Ericksen Avenue where 18 rental apartments are being built. Now the slabs are ready for a finish: Osmo hardwax oil. You will be applying a light coat, then wiping off any excess. Many hands will make for quick work.

Details:

  • To allow for multiple coats with ample drying time, this project is scheduled with three sessions, each 6 to 8 PM on Monday, June 8; Wednesday, June 10; and Friday, June 12. Each work day is listed separately so you can sign up to help on one or more days.

  • Everyone is welcome to help with this step — you do not need to have taken safety training on woodworking tools or have experience applying finish.

  • Wear closed-toe shoes.
