About

Challah is the traditional bread served on Ashkenazic Jewish tables every week for Shabbat. Whether you observe Shabbat or simply want fresh challah for your weekend French toast, this family recipe is the one you want. Your instructor, Rebecca Rockefeller, brings more than 20 years of mixing, braiding, and baking challah for her family’s table and numerous Jewish community events, and loves sharing this art with bakers of all experience levels.

You’ll start this class by braiding a six-strand challah from pre-mixed dough, then adorn it with sesame or poppy seeds, as you desire. While your first challah bakes, you’ll mix up another batch of challah dough, then unleash your creativity on a second braid, learning to add spirals, rosettes, and other fun dough details.

We'll share a challah fresh from the oven during class.

You'll leave class with two challah loaves: one ready to bake when you get home and one that you baked during class. Also take home recipes, and new braiding skills and ideas.
