About

This one-session class is designed for all levels, including beginners, yet is interesting for experienced makers. You will build a fully programmable robot car and learn a bit about microcontrollers, motors, and laser cutting in the process.

You will be supplied with all the parts you need to build a basic robotic car. You'll learn how to program it using the Arduino development environment.

If you have been curious about using Arduino, this is a great way to get started.

You'll even get access to templates for the laser-cut parts so you can make your own future modifications using BARN's laser cutter.

Finally, you'll gain enough knowledge to add information displays, sensors, and servos in the future, on your own after the class. You can bring your car in to upgrade it during ETA open studios.

Important: Be sure to bring your own laptop with a free USB port.

Materials

In addition to the class fee, a $30 materials fee will be collected when you register. This covers the car parts and electronic bits, including an Arduino computer! (And, yes, batteries are included.)

Skill Level: Beginner

Ages: Open to ages 8 and older, although anyone 12 and under must have one adult with them (registration covers adult and child and provides one set of materials).

Instructor Bio

Doug Salot is an old-school computer programmer. He got started with PEEKs and POKEs on an Apple ][ about 40 years ago, but he's brand-new to robotics, so he figures that means he's the perfect guy to teach robotics to other newbies.
