BARN is starting a chapter of Girls Who Code, an organization founded with a single mission: To close the gender gap in technology. Computer coding is relevant to all sorts of interests, not just computer science.

Come to this informational session to ask questions, meet the instructor, see the set-up and check it out. Parents, guardians as well as future coders are all welcome.

Girls Who Code is free. There is no charge to participate in this program. 

Girls Who Code has reached almost 90,000 girls of all backgrounds in all 50 states. Now it reaches Bainbridge and neighboring communities thanks to a generous grant from the Suquamish Foundation and support from BARN and local volunteers. 

Materials: None! BARN provides workstations. Participants can also bring their own laptop or Chromebook. 

Skill Level: All. There are zero prerequisites.

Ages: Grades 6 - 12

There is no fee to participate in Girls Who Code.

From the Girl's Who Code organization: "Girls Who Code's mission is to create gender parity within technology by providing a unique educational experience for young women to learn computer science. Interested participants who self-identify as female are welcome to apply to our programs. This includes students who were not assigned to the female sex at birth but live and identify as girls now. It also includes students who are legally assigned to the female sex, but who now identify as transgender or gender fluid."
