About

Member: $ 20

Non-member: $ 22

This workshop will introduce the student to the BARN's laser cutter and its safe operation. The student will learn how to load, customize and prepare a design, and safely render it on the laser cutter. The student will also learn the basics of using 2D graphic design software to work with a collection of design templates provided.  Successful completion of this workshop would qualify the student for independent work.

While appropriate for the beginner at the laser, the student is expected to be able to use a computer and install software on it.

Student should bring a laptop they can install software on. A small USB flash key is also useful but not required. Pre-installation of Inkscape (free and open source), is helpful but not essential - it will be covered in class.  If the student chooses not to bring a laptop, they can follow along, but a laptop is really encouraged.

Materials fee: $1

NOTE:  If the class fills and you are still interested in the class, please email programcoordinator@bainbridgebarn.org with the subject line "Want to take the Laser 101 class."  If we get sufficient interest, will work on offering an additional class.

INSTRUCTOR: Rick Gordon is a member of the BARN who has become very familiar with the laser cutter. He brings a background in graphic arts and computer technology.
