Turn randomly sized blocks of wood into small, elegantly embellished boxes suitable for storing jewelry or other items.
Day 1: Starting with a square or rectangular block of wood, choose which face will be the lid. Then cut the block apart in a way that allows it to be glued back together to make a hollowed-out box. No fancy joinery is needed.
Day 2: Learn about different was to embellish wood projects, including burning in a design with a hot-tipped tool, carving with hand tools or a small rotary carving tool, and adding color with milk paints, acrylic paints or stains. Practice techniques on scrap wood. Then embellish your box.
You must wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes, tie back long
hair, and avoid loose-fitting clothing and jewelry. We recommend
bringing your own safety glasses.
