Make the world’s most comfortable pants while learning basic pattern modification and specialty sewing techniques that can be applied to all your sewing projects!
In this class, taught by the pattern designer, you will learn the art of Fancy Pants. In the first class, the concept and design of fancy pants will be discussed. During this time, we will talk about fit and pattern modification so that the pair of fancy pants you make will fit you perfectly. In this process you will learn techniques that can be applied to other patterns. We will discuss the traditional style of Fancy Pants, and you will begin to cut out your very own pair after modifying your pattern, if necessary.
In the second class, we will begin sewing. Specialty techniques, like French seams, decorative stitches and the stretch straight stitch, will be used to make your pants. As the pants progress, design variations will be discussed and shown so that you can fully understand the versatility of your new pattern. The designer has been making this pattern for years, and testing new ideas and possibilities. These easy modifications will be demonstrated so that each pair of fancy pants you make can be as different and varied as you would like. Fabric choices and consequences will also be discussed so you have all of the information you need to be successful on your own.
To have the most success in this class, you should have your own sewing machine and be comfortable using it. Previous clothing experience is not required. Come with an open mind and sense of humor! The possibilities will be endless! You will leave with a completed pair of pants, and a copy of the pattern to keep.
In addition to your sewing machine you will also need to bring to class:
- 2-1/2 yards of main body fabric.
- 1/2 yard of contrast fabric (bottom band and pockets).
- 2 yards EACH of any trim you would like to use (around leg seam). Not using leg trim will also be discussed – if you prefer.
- 1” elastic to fit your waist.
- Matching thread for both fabrics AND all trims (I typically use several colors of thread on each pair of pants).
- Basic sewing supplies including extra needles, pins, scissors, bobbins, etc.
Pattern will be supplied to you as part of your class fee.
