About

Join us in a fun, interactive, messy, and creative two-day Silk Screen Class in BARN's Fiber Arts Studio. The class will be taught by Contemporary Quilt Association's own Judith Trager.

We will work with basic materials—ink, paint, cotton fabrics, and imagination.

In this 2-session workshop, students will learn stencil cutting and basic silk screen techniques using images students develop in the class. We will be using silk screen paints and mediums, making block designs as well as individual  prints.

The students should go home with images on fabric ready for garment or art quilt use.

What Students Need to Bring to Class:

  • 1 yard white or off white Kona cotton fabric -- prewashed and dried
  • Other fabric such as pieces of cotton, silk and wool in various colors. Pieces must be bigger than the silk screen, at least 15” x 15”
  • Rubber gloves
  • Spray bottle for water
  • Scissors
  • Small stack of newspapers
  • Old, beat up bath towel you don’t mind getting paint on
  • Roll of paper towels
  • Empty, clean yogurt containers—6 or so for mixing paint
  • Plastic spoons
  • Apron or paint shirt appropriate for getting messy, really messy.

Skill Level: Universal.  This workshop is for beginners as well as people with more advance silk screening skills.

Ages: Ages 14+ Welcome.

Bring a bag lunch. We have a refrigerator for people to store their lunches and drinks!

Materials: $40. A materials fee of $40 is included in the workshop price. Material fees are for silk screen, squeegee, sponge, inks, paints and extenders, exacto knife, freezer paper, and tape.
