About

This is a student-run follow-up work session for “Shaped Resist with Ecology in Mind” (Joan Morris and Kathy Hattori). Participants from that class are invited back to BARN as we open the Fiber Arts Studio Lab for a fun day of collaborative skill building and sharing.

We will begin with a shaped-resist “show and tell,” then work together to organize stitching resources and natural dye stations for group use during the rest of the day. We expect to be able to provide two to three immersion dye pots and one or two organic indigo vats for dipping.

Participants are invited to come with sample-sized pre-stitched, pre-mordanted pieces to put into the dye pots; (recall that textiles for indigo do not need mordant); we can of course also stitch together. As the afternoon winds down, we will team up to decant exhaust baths, clean equipment, and tidy the space before concluding with the “Big Reveals” and sharing our creative outcomes.

Space is limited and registration is on a first-come basis, so please register without delay.

If you did not take the Morris-Hattori foundation class but have some other prior experience with shaped resists and natural dyes, you are invited to contact our BARN Registrar, Tammie Tippie, to be placed on the waitlist (206-842-4475, Extension 216 or Registrar@bainbridgebarn.org). If there are still available spaces after July 10th, the registrar will notify all those on the waitlist.
