About

This focused Open Studio is for enameling only. Enameling is the process of fusing powdered glass to another surface, such as metal, at high heat. A trained safety monitor is always on duty. This isn’t a class, and no formal instruction is given.

Details

Equipment

  • You’ll have access to the kilns and equipment needed to fire your enamels.

  • You won’t have access to any other tools or equipment. Do all of your metal prep before attending.

Registration

  • Registration is required.

  • Registration closes the night before at 11:59 PM.

  • If no one has shown up by the end of the first hour, the monitor may close the studio.

  • If you know you’ll arrive more than an hour after the start time, email Registrar@bainbridgebarn.org by 11:59 PM the day before.

Materials

A $16 materials fee, included in the registration cost, covers the use of enameling powders (basic colors) that are available in the studio and used during this session.

You should:

  • Bring a cotton apron.

  • Bring towels to dry your metal and hands.

Prerequisites

  • You must have completed Introduction to Enameling: Opaques or its equivalent elsewhere.

  • You must have a current Skills Card, which identifies the tools and equipment you're qualified to work with.

  • If you don’t have a Skills Card but have previous experience, you can fill out a form requesting a Skills Assessment.

Class Policies

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.

  • Wear closed-toe shoes and natural-fiber clothing.

  • Do not wear loose or synthetic-fiber clothing, scarves, or ties.

  • Do not wear dangling jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets.
