JavaScript is the programming language that powers the web and is one of the most popular and pervasive, modern coding languages available today. In this workshop we will approach JavaScript from the perspective of creating small, creative projects (sketches) that are media focused (art and animated graphic). You will learn JavaScript basics along-side the P5.js library (https://p5js.org/) which greatly simplifies media coding.
There will be no programs to install. All of your sketches / programs will be constructed and executed within your web browser (Chrome is highly recommended) - link to the online editor :https://editor.p5js.org/. You will need a desktop, laptop, Chromebook or tablet that has a web browser.
A variety of different sketches will be developed with the attendees. Each session will offer a few small programming projects to build on and explore the lecture materials. Learning to program requires practice coding. At the beginning of each session, we will review solutions to the previous session’s “homework” before we tackle new material.
Course sessions will be a mix of online Zoom lectures and in person workshops. Session 1, 3, and 5 will be at BARN. Sessions 2 and 4 will be via Zoom.
Attend our free "Taste of Fun With JavaScript" discussion with the instructor. The free event is Monday, July 19th beginning at 7:00 PM. You can sign up to receive the Zoom link by clicking here.
