About

Make lovely prints right away in this class designed for everyone from complete beginners to anyone wanting to explore another printmaking technique. Be surprised at how easy and beautiful these prints can be! Versatile images range from stand-alone monotypes to pieces for collage/mixed media, illustration, encaustics and a limitless variety of crafts.

Experiment with making different layers, mixing colors on the plates, and using botanicals. Add texture with our own DIY simple stamps and stencils and try out different papers.

Go home with your own plate and the ability to get started with this great kitchen table project using supplies you like have on hand. Set up and clean up are simple.

Materials to bring:

You are welcome to bring your favorite acrylic paints, stencils, stamps, botanicals and ephemera for mark making (but this isn't required).

Details:

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
  • Please click here for BARN's current COVID-19 health & safety protocols.
  • If you have questions, please email Print & Book Arts Studio Lead, Amy Goldthwaite, printandbook.lead@bainbridgebarn.org.

Instructor:

Julie Bennett - Julie grew up in a handmade house with "Mother Earth News" parents who were DIY about everything. Tinkering has been her lifestyle. A lively path led to midwifery and the creation of Salmonberry Birth Center in Poulsbo. Art projects were part of her childbirth class curriculum - making belly casts, clay vessels, mandalas and placenta prints as ways to celebrate and integrate the changes of pregnancy.

She's been drawn to printmaking for the last handful of years. When BARN closed during Covid, she started studying techniques for printing without a press and had so much fun with the gel plates she decided to share the process with a BARN class.
