About

Dovetail joints hold together without screws or nails because of their interlocking parts, called pins and tails. Woodworkers use dovetails most often in drawers. Learn how to design, lay out, cut, and fine-tune the fit for two kinds of these joints using hand tools.

  • Day 1: through dovetails. The pins and tails are visible on the front and side.
  • Day 2: half-blind dovetails. The tails fit into recesses cut into the back edge of the front piece, making the joinery visible only on the side. A drawer with half-blind dovetails doesn't need an add-on drawer face to hide the joinery.

Prerequisites

Before the class begins, you must have completed Orientation to the Woodshop.

Class Policies

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes.
