One two-hour class, followed by optional 1 hour of open studio time
Learn to make some of the simplest, most common woodworking joints using hand tools. This class covers rabbet, dado and lap joints, which are often used in projects ranging from building a simple box or bookcase to elaborate pieces of furniture.
This class is suitable for woodworkers with limited experience, but you must have completed Hand Tool Essentials or have permission from the instructor, Dick Culp. The class itself is 2 hours, but the BARN woodshop will have open studio time for 1 hour afterward for students who want to stay longer to practice the joints.
There is a $10 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the first class, to cover wood for practice cuts. Students can use BARN's tools, or bring their own. The instructor will provide a tool list in advance of the class for students who prefer to bring or purchase their own tools.
NOTE: The first six people to sign up will be able to participate at the dates and times listed. Additional sections will be added if demand warrants. Please email if the class is full or if you could only take it on a weekend day.
INSTRUCTOR: A hand tool devotee, Dick Culp has taken many classes at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking and will be sharing what he's learned. He serves on the school's Board of Directors and was a director of Bainbridge Island Community Woodshop until it merged with BARN at the end of 2013.
