One two-hour class, followed by optional 1 hour of open studio time

Strong and beautiful, dovetail joints are often seen as a hallmark of fine craftsmanship, especially when they are cut by hand and fit perfectly. In this class, you will use hand tools to create these elegant corner joints. You will then be able to incorporate them in future projects, such as building boxes or drawers.

This class is suitable for woodworkers with limited experience, but you must have completed Hand Tool Essentials or have permission from the instructor, Dick Culp. The class itself is 2 hours, but the shop will be open for an hour afterward for students who want to stay longer to practice the joints.

There is a $10 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the first class, to cover wood for practice cuts. Students can use BARN's tools, or bring their own. The instructor will provide a tool list in advance of the class for students who prefer to bring or purchase their own tools.

NOTE: The first six people to sign up will be able to participate at the dates and times listed. Additional sections will be added if demand warrants. Please email if the class is full or if you could only take it on a weekend day.

INSTRUCTOR: A hand tool devotee, Dick Culp has taken many classes at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking and will be sharing what he's learned. He serves on the school's Board of Directors and was a director of Bainbridge Island Community Woodshop until it merged with BARN at the end of 2013.
