This harvest basket — 12 inches long, 10 inches wide and 12 inches high — has a red oak handle with finger joinery and is woven with 5/8-inch and 1/2-inch wide rattan reed. This traditional basket is strong enough to carry wood, gather vegetables and flowers, or to store magazines, yarn, toys, and treasures.

Materials

A materials fee of $25, included in the price of the class, covers all you'll need for this class.

I have been exploring American regional weaving traditions ever 1987; Penobscot sweetgrass and ash, Cherokee twill, Appalachian rib, Coastal Salish cedar, Wasco/Wishram twined soft-sided “Sally bags”, plus the immigrant traditions of New England. I love teaching basket weaving and watching people become empowered by the rhythm of weaving. The rhythm crosses language, culture and ability barriers. In this fast-paced world where everything is available for purchase with the click of a button, I love sharing this ancient tradition which requires one to slow down and consider our connection to the past while creating something new.
