Join Erin Wilkins, author of Asian American Herbalism (2023), and local clinical herbalist Abby Rappoport and learn to use herbs to nourish the immune system.

Learn about the variety of herbs used to strengthen the immune system and how we can easily add them into our daily lives through herbal chai teas, soup broths, and herbal infusions. Many of these herbs are roots, they are used in both Asian and western herbalism, and some of them are even easy to find at the local grocery store. We will also learn about how and when to use the herbs, and who can take them.

Details

  • In this class, you will make medicinal herbal chai, healing soup broth, and herbal infusions. Throughout the class we will be and drinking a variety of herbs.
  • Each participant will leave with a custom bag of  chai tea herbal blend, dried herbs to add to your next soup, and detailed handout/materia medica to begin your own home remedy resource manual including broth and tea recipes and how to source herbs.

Materials

  • A $22 materials fee, included in the class price, covers everything you'll need.

Class Policies

Instructor
Abby Rappoport

Abby, a medicinal plant lover, has always had a deep affection for plants (her first job out of college was as a floral designer). Her interest in using them medicinally bloomed while she was studying for her master's degree in Chinese medicine at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, Calif. In school she focused on herbal medicine, and after graduation became registered as a professional clinical herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild. She's dedicated to teaching how powerful plant medicine can be, and is always happy to talk your ear off about medicinal plants! When she’s not working in her apothecary or garden, you can find Abby teaching somatic movement therapy, using movement as medicine to help folks feel better in their bodies. Connect with her at www.abbyrapp.com or on Instagram @medicinegarden_pnw or @movement_breath_health

Instructor
Erin Masako Wilkins

Erin Masako Wilkins is a California-based author of Asian American Herbalism, the first book by an AAPI author to bridge TCM and Western herbalism through storytelling and practical, home-based care. She is the founder of herbfolkshop.com, where she offers farm-to-cup teas, virtual classes, retreats, and consultations. Her earliest memories are of her Grandma Masako’s kitchen and garden, and the understanding that food and plants are medicine. She’s now an herbalist and acupuncturist, weaving Traditional Chinese Medicine with Japanese and Western herbal traditions. Rooted in ancestral memory and lived experience, she helps people reconnect with themselves, their culture, and the earth.
