About

Now that you know how to weave on a frame loom, it is time to 'up your game' and weave bigger projects.

In this workshop, you will be weaving on the large frame looms supplied by the Fiber Studio.

You will learn:

  • about fabrics that work best for this kind of weaving;
  • translating drawings to finished products;
  • the special techniques that are unique to the larger looms for rag weaving.

This is a 3 session class that will enable you to make a pillow cover, a runner, etc. After taking this class, you will be ready to make you own woven rag rug on a large frame.

Details:

  • Materials: A materials fee of $50 is included in the price of class.
  • The Fiber Arts Studio will provide the floor frame looms and fabric, but students are welcome to bring their own. Let the instructor know if you will be bringing your own large frame loom by using the registration option for "Bringing Large Frame Loom".
  • Students need to bring: sharp pointy small scissors, gold tapestry needle, tape measure, very small screw driver, or implement to tamp down weft.
  • Skill Level: Advanced Beginner.  Students need to have taken an introductory class in Frame Loom Weaving.
  • Ages: Ages 14+ Welcome.
  • Bring a bag lunch. We have a refrigerator for people to store their lunches and drinks!

Instructor Bio:  Caroline Cooley Browne is a much beloved artist on Bainbridge Island with her work being exhibited at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art and art galleries in the region.  Students in her previous frame loom weaving classes have uniformly loved the workshops. Caroline will be assisted by Constance Ducar, one of our very creative Fiber Arts Studio members.
