About

This class has been postponed.

Learn the fundamentals  of making beautiful wooden pens as you also learn safe use of a lathe and turning tools.

In this class, the instructor will discuss the basic concepts of turning, using the modern pen as a model. Students will use the drill press to prepare their turning blanks.

Then, depending on the experience level of students in the class, the instructor will work out a schedule so that each student gets sufficient lathe time and one-on-one attention to complete a pen.

Details:

  • Beginners are welcome.
  • Students should have attended Orientation to the Woodshop, Woodshop Tool Safety Checkout 1,  and Woodshop Tool Safety Checkout 2 before registering for this class.
  • An additional fee of $10 to cover materials is payable upon registration.
Instructor: Oscar Barbo has been a woodworker and turner for more than 30 years. Oscar is well traveled, learning his turning in Hawaii, where he relished making pens from the local Koa wood. He often uses rare woods and non-wood materials like bone and antler. He is looking to share his skills while promoting pen design.
