About

Rag weaving is a very sturdy, washable weaving that results in a balanced weave, using fabric strips for both the warp and weft. You'll learn to weave using this technique, how to set up on larger looms, and weave a medium-size project. On the first day of class, you'll use a small loom to learn the techniques, and set up a large loom to use during the rest of the class. If you have previous experience with frame looms, you may start with a large loom the first day.

All the techniques learned will enable you to do large projects on your own. You'll be able to make pillows, rugs, place mats, runners, purses, and more.

Instructor
Caroline Browne

Caroline Cooley Browne has lived on the island almost 40 years, and has been weaving on a frame loom almost as long. She loves the simple technique, the balanced weave, and making useful crafts that are sturdy, very washable and enable her to play with color. The technique she uses is one she created, developed, and improved over the many years. Caroline is a founding member of BARN and the fiber studio, and a practicing artist weaving artwork as well as painting and drawing. She shows her work at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, Bainbridge Museum of Art and has work in many private and public collections.
