About
This class is the second of a 3 part series. It is the next step once students complete the prerequisite class: MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding Part 1. This third class focuses on MIG fabrication.
This is a hands-on opportunity to reprise and practice what was learned in Part 1. The MIG welding class is limited to 4 participants and focuses on hands-on mentoring and practice. Each participant will have the use of a fully equipped MIG welding station.
The class will review the safety briefing, the introduction to welding theory and materials and the set up process for MIG welding on a Miller 215 Welder. The emphasis of the class will be on technique development and practice.
There will be approximately an hour and a half of hands-on instruction in making a weld, different types of welds, and torch manipulation. Over the shoulder mentoring will be from a professional MIG welder.
At the end of class, students should feel comfortable with the operation of the welding machine and the MIG welding process. The goal is for each student to be able to critique their technique and identify flaws in their beads and how to correct them. Students should be comfortable undertaking independent practice of technique or starting their own projects.
Beginning Level but for students who have completed Introduction to MIG #1
When registering for class on line you will be required to pay an added $7 materials fee. This will then be added to the base price of the class and totaled. If paying by check, please add the $7 materials fee.
Instructor: Erin Munter was raised locally on the Island. In her 20's she moved to Oakland, California and attended the welding program at Laney College for 4 years. During this time she interned and volunteered at a metal arts school called The Crucible. She returned to Bainbridge Island and began doing furniture bases and other fabrication for Coyote Woodshop. Eventually she moved on to work at an Island fabricating shop as well as teach at another Kitsap area school aimed towards children's welding education. She still currently does fabrication all over Kitsap. Her passion is everything welded including large and small indoor and outdoor household amenities. She also takes part in the local art community with sculptures in local shows past and future.
