In this 4-day class, you will make beads of all sorts and then create jewelry with the beads. Techniques you will explore are: wire wrapping beads and beach glass, making a hollow metal bead, making and firing clay beads. You will also learn how to string and make clasps.

There will be a Materials Fee of $35 added to the price of class when you register. 

  • Please complete and bring this permission slip to the first day of class.
  • Minimal financial assistance available. Please apply here.

  • Please plan to bring a lunch daily.
  • Dress appropriately for working in the Jewelry Studio: long pants and closed-toed shoes.
Instructors include:

Jane Martin has taught jewelry making at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, for the Seattle Metals Guild, and the Bainbridge Island park department. Her jewelry is shown at Facere Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle. She has been making jewelry since she was in high school and has a BFA from University of the Arts, Philadelphia.

Chris Eisenberg discovered beading while recovering from an accident and the resulting traumatic brain injury. Beading was her therapy and credits it for helping her become whole again. Chris has a doctorate in classical piano performance from the University of Northern Colorado and am a performance coach and collaborator at Central Washington University. She has previously taught workshops at the Autumn Artist Retreat and in the Iron Mountain Arts studio near Port Gamble. 

Chris Stanley is a fourth generation artist/ craftsman who works in a variety of media. After working for many years as a professional model maker in both architectural and design fields, he went into education, teaching a wide variety of classes for the Art Institute of Seattle. 

Sarah Jones is a local Bainbridge Island artist and jeweler. A proud alumna and self proclaimed class addict at BARN. With a background in ceramics and sculpting Sarah started her journey into metal arts with studio lead Jane Martin back at Yeolmalt Cabin. She is on the BARN Jewelry/Fine Metal Arts steering committee and runs the open studio program. Sarah sells her art to private collectors and her work can be viewed on Instagram @SarahJonesJewelry.
