About

Jewelry illustration is an excellent skill to have in your tool box. Working out ideas and express design choices with paper and pencil is a valuable communication tool. With jewelry illustration you can design projects using techniques or gemstones you have yet to acquire.

Learn to work with templates and different harnesses of graphite to create top, side, and edge views of jewelry items. Discover how to illustrate highlights and shadows to simulate gold, silver, faceted or cabochon gemstones. It would be helpful if participants brought jewelry items of their own to draw.

This 3-part class is open to all skill levels. Class one will cover the architectural layout style of illustration in both black and white, and color. Class two will cover illustration of gemstones and introduce perspective (3/4 view) illustration. Finally, class three will bring all these skills together.

Tool List students can bring:

2 mechanical pencils using 0.05 lead

  1 with 2H lead
  1 with B lead

Prisma color pencils in yellow, brown, gray, red, blue, green, white,

6” ruler

Geometric templates

Tracing paper
