Learning to make tools is an essential skill for the successful practice of chasing and repoussé. Most tools are fast and easy to make and will enhance your ability to move the metal just how you want or to create a unique texture that can become your signature style.

Using high carbon tool steel we will make 3 to 5 chasing tools and/or repoussé punches (liners, undercutters, running punches, forming punches, planishers) and 1 to 2 texture tools in this one-day class. You will learn the processes of hardening and tempering to make the tools long lasting. This course includes a very complete handout.

Details:
Materials fee of $5 will be applied when you register. The materials fee is for the steel rods, precut by the instructor.

This is a 200 level class. Students need to have taken at least 2 beginning level classes.

Please feel free to bring a lunch. BARN has a refrigerator to store your lunch in.

Instructor Bio:
Nancy Megan Corwin is a jeweler/metalsmith, teacher, curator and writer in the field of art metals specializing in the ancient techniques of chasing and repoussé. Megan has artwork in a number of private collections throughout the United States, as well as The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England, the permanent collection of The State University of New Mexico-Las Cruces Art Gallery, and at the Tacoma Art Museum, Washington. Megan is the author of the technique and gallery book “Chasing and Repoussé: Methods Ancient and Modern,” which is in it’s second printing and is published internationally. Megan is represented by Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle, WA.
