About

In the three-hour session on Saturday, participants will learn how to load a kiln properly and prepare it for firing, identify kiln parts, operate a controller, understand basic firing schedules, and practice setting a kiln for firing. During this same session, they will assemble a number of glass pieces for test firings. During the next two days, they will use their assembled pieces to perform a test firing, tack fuse, contour fuse, and full fuse. After each firing, they will discuss outcomes and how to achieve different results. A week after the class, participants must submit an online written kiln operation exam. Following this exam and successful observed kiln settings, they may be approved for renting glass studio kiln time.

Notes:

Prerequisite: Completion of A-Z of Fused Glass

Materials Fee: $20  Please bring your materials fee to the first session, if writing a check, please make payable to BARN Glass Studio). Thank you!

Instructor:  Diane Bonciolini is the "olini" of Mesolini Glass Studio, and glass is her passion.   As a full-time glass artist who has lived and worked on Bainbridge Island since 1977, she grows and changes with every project. Glass, her medium of choice, has a life of its own.  This multifaceted medium shows itself in each of her creations:  stained glass, slumped and fused glass, lamp work, or glass combined with concrete.
