Learn how to create a rich, savory-sweet marinade, properly prepare the popular lateral-cut beef short ribs, and cook them to perfection. By the end of the session, you’ll have the skills to impress your friends and family with an authentic Korean barbecue experience!
 
You will:

  • Create a traditional marinade using soy sauce, Asian pear, and other key ingredients to maximize flavor and tenderness.
  • Learn proper marination techniques to enhance the texture and taste of the meat.
  • Grill short ribs like a pro, achieving the perfect balance of caramelization and juiciness.
  • Make three classic banchan, the small side dishes that are so important for an authentic Korean dining experience.

  • LA galbi
  • Rice
  • Braised tofu (dubu jorim)
  • Stir-fried fish cake (eomuk bokkeum)
  • Rolled omelette (gyeran-mari)

Details

  • Omnivores will enjoy this menu. Check with the Culinary Arts Studio to see if dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
  • BARN’s kitchen facility regularly uses ingredients on the FDA’s major allergens list. This class will use fish, wheat, soybeans, and sesame.

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
  • You must wear closed-toe shoes in the studio.

Kate Lee

Kate is a passionate cook and first-generation Korean immigrant who brings the warmth and authenticity of her family’s kitchen in Yeongwol, South Korea, to every dish she creates. Growing up with grandparents who owned a local restaurant, Kate learned the foundations of Korean cooking from an early age, mastering traditional recipes and techniques that have been passed down through generations. Her culinary journey began in her family’s bustling kitchen, where she gained hands-on experience with the bold flavors and vibrant colors of Korean cuisine. In Kate’s classes, you’ll learn not only how to cook authentic Korean dishes but also the cultural significance and family traditions behind them. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a beginner, Kate’s warm teaching style and expert guidance will inspire you to bring a taste of Korea into your own kitchen.
