About

Drawing is fundamentally about learning to see. When you sharpen your drawing skills, you simultaneously enhance your ability to notice the world around you, deepen your concentration, and create lasting memories of everyday moments.

This unique course explores the powerful connection between hand, heart, and mind. Both drawing and writing flow through the same fundamental element — the line — and when we engage our hands in either practice, we activate a profound awareness that transforms how we experience our daily lives.

You’ll develop essential observational drawing techniques including accurate measuring, understanding shape relationships through negative and positive space, and mastering contour line drawing. Alongside these visual skills, you’ll discover how writing serves as both a tool for heightening awareness and a method for working through drawing challenges.

Together, these practices will help you cultivate a richer, more attentive relationship with your surroundings while building a meaningful journal of your artistic journey and daily observations.

Instructor
Jennifer Davey

Jennifer is a contemporary American artist whose paintings are minimal and poetic. They explore themes of loss, integration, joy, and healing. Davey navigates the internal landscape of emotion while also drawing inspiration from external geography. Recently relocated from Denver, Colo., to the Pacific Northwest, the geography and climate are dramatically impacting her paintings. Verdant greens, dense, foggy rainy days, and the impact of the seasons are weaving their way into her work. A return to her life-long love of fashion and drawing also are emerging. These interests reflect a core desire to be grounded in the body in order to create a healthy, vibrant mind-body-spirit. A life-long passion for education through the arts, she has taught at The Clyfford Still Museum in Denver as well as in many different venues both online and in person for children and adults. She writes a regular Friday letter to email subscribers, sharing about her studio practice, art, and philosophy.
