About

Learn the basic skills required to find, set, ink, print, clean, and store metal type in the Print & Book Arts Studio in this introductory class. By the end, you should have acquired the fundamentals required to get certified to use the Vandercook proof press and apply your new skills to letterpress projects. In the process, you'll learn about job cases, ems and ens, quads, picas, furniture, galley trays, magnets, location-location-location, and why you should always wash your hands after handling metal type.

And you'll go home with a quote printed on student-grade paper.

Please note this is a test run for a new class that is under development. We expect to make changes and tweak it before it's offered to the community so there will be time set aside at the end to discuss constructive feedback.

Prerequisites

You must be an active Print & Book Arts Studio monitor or steering committee member.
