About

If you can draw the human figure, you can draw anything! In no other subject does the artist encounter such complex and mysterious demands as this challenge.

Details

  • Skill level: Intermediate, although beginners with some experience with figure drawing are welcome.
  • Plan to arrive 15 minutes early so you have time to set up and prepare. Doors will close promptly at 5:30 PM.
  • We'll begin with a brief introduction to studio culture and the week’s model.
  • The session begins with a series of five short gestures (dynamic poses not easily held for longer than a few minutes) as warmup for both artists and models.
  • After a short break, the remaining time will be structured into four 20-minute poses, relieving the model with five-minute breaks.
  • Easels are available. All dry materials and watercolor are welcome. Please no acrylics, oils, India Ink or turpentine.
  • The class fee covers compensation for the model. If you wish to show extra appreciation for the model's skill, time, and professionalism, you're welcome to leave an anonymous tip in the box provided.

Details

Bring any drawing materials you prefer, such as drawing pads, newsprint, vellum, drawing pencils, willow charcoal, gray-scale conte, graphite, smudge sticks, kneaded erasers, rags, etc. Watercolors are also welcome, though acrylics, oils and India Inks are not currently invited.

Class Policies

  • Ages 18 and up are welcome.
  • To ensure the privacy, comfort, and safety of everyone, please note the following:
    • Models should be treated professionally and with respect.
    • No photography, video recording, or image sharing via text, online, or in print.
    • No personal questions or remarks directed towards or about the model.
    • No inappropriate gestures, touching, or repositioning the model.
    • Only registered participants can be present during class.
    • Classes featuring unclothed models are limited to participants age 18 or older.
    • Only enter and exit the studio room when the model is robed.
