About

BARN Member:  $25 (two sessions)
Non-member:  $35 (two sessions)

Tuesday & Thursday, November 3 & 5 from 5pm to 7pm

A material fee of $10 will be charged for students using wood provided by BARN, or students can bring their own wood block to the first class.

Make a bandsaw box in this introductory class.  Bandsaw boxes are made using only a bandsaw for cutting them out. The wood may be a solid block, a laminated block or a log from the woodpile. Whereas most boxes have straight sides and square corners, band saw boxes have virtually no restrictions as to shape. They can be oval, heart-shaped, lizard-shaped, or any shape the maker can think of.

The first night of this class will introduce bandsaw box design and construction and students will begin the design of their boxes.  Students can choose from wood provided by BARN or bring their own wood for this project.  During the second class students will use the bandsaw to create their boxes.  If you are unfamiliar with bandsaw box possibilities, you can find many examples online. Class time will limit some options.

Students are asked to complete the bandsaw safety checkout prior to this class.  This can be done during any open woodshop session. Check the BARN calendar for Woodshop Open Studio days and times. https://bainbridgebarn.wildapricot.org/Woodworking

This class is being taught by Tom Wilson, an Industrial Arts teacher for 30 years in California. Tom assists with woodworking classes at BI High School and is currently building a Cedar strip kayak
