Portable power tools can accomplish a lot -- if you know how to use them safely and efficiently. This class, part of the BARN Woodshop’s Woodworking 101 series, introduces you to circular saws, hand-held drills, biscuit joiners (aka biscuit cutters), jig saws, routers, and sanders.
The instructor will go over basic safety rules and demonstrate how to use the circular saw, hand-held drills and biscuit joiners to cut pieces for a panel and assemble them using biscuits and dowels.
Students will use jig saws, routers, and sanders to cut a curve in a panel, shape the edge, and smooth the surface. Students will be able to make a cutting board or similar simple project from the panel they create.
Like other classes in the BARN Woodshop’s Woodworking 101 series, this class is designed to help you learn to use these tools safely and independently. No experience is necessary, but before the class, students should read the safety information that will be emailed to registrants.
This class can be taken independently or in combination with other classes in the Woodworking 101 series.
INSTRUCTOR: Dave Whitacre moved to Bainbridge last year after he retired after as a petroleum engineer in Alaska. Woodworking has been his hobby for the past 40-plus years. He's enjoyed designing and building traditional-styled furniture and hopes to broaden his skills and techniques now that he has more time to devote to the craft.
Dave Kircher will assist in this class.
