About
Build an end table in a mid-century modern style as you learn variety of techniques that you can apply to future furniture projects.
Using solid wood, you will make a table approximately 17½ inches wide, 17½ inches deep, and 24 inches tall, perfect for situating at the end of a couch or beside a bed. The design, based on a simple plan that the instructor modified, includes:
- Continuous miter joints (creating a “waterfall effect” with the wood grain)
- Compound tapers
- Loose-tenon Domino, rabbet and locking-rabbet joints.
You will learn to follow plans, mill rough wood to size; join the milled boards to form the top, bottom and sides of the table; cut and taper the legs and aprons for the table base; build a drawer box; and assemble the components into a finished table. Applying finish is not included in the class — you will need to complete that later, on your own.
