About

Whether you want to mark someone's graduation or retirement with a plaque, or post a favorite saying in a sign on your wall, a laser cutter is a terrific tool for producing one that looks expertly made. In this class you will learn to create designs that BARN's laser cutter. can follow.

This first portion of this class will cover the basics of Inkscape, a free, open-source vector graphics editor that works on Windows or Mac OS X. Professionals as well as hobbyists use it to create a wide variety of graphics with images and text. In this class, the focus will be on ways to use Inkscape for laser cutter designs.

After the introduction to the software, you will use Inkscape to create a small sample sign. You can then use this knowledge to create larger or more complex designs during BARN's open studio time.

Materials fee is to be determined.

Details:

  • Requires successful completion of the Intro to Laser Cutting class or the equivalent during ETA Open Studio
  • Basic computer skills are expected for this class.
  • Bring a current-generation laptop (Windows or Mac), or email ETA@bainbridgebarn.org if you do not have a laptop and need to borrow one for this class.
  • It's also helpful to bring a small USB flash key.

Instructor: Matt Carrig. You may have seen his laser cut signs around town for Iggy's Kumbacha and other fine fermented foods.
