About

Learn to make meander books, one-page wonders that intrigue and delight as they open into a mystifying labyrinth of folds. You can choose to make the "pages" open almost conventionally as an unusual accordion book or fully unfold to form a large picture with a message that cannot be read until the one-page book is open flat.

This class will begin at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art's Sherry Grover Gallery. Meander books are deceptively simple and quick to make, yet they always amaze the viewer. We will see and discuss some beautifully crafted examples of meander books. Then we’ll head to the BARN; lunch in the open space; and enjoy a fun afternoon of creative book-making in the Book Arts Studio.

Take Away: You’ll take home the books you make, plus ideas, instructions, and materials for making another book on your own.

Details:

  • Meet at 11 a.m. in the Sherry Grover Gallery upstairs at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. Admission is free.
  • Bring a brown-bag lunch.
  • The instructor will provide all book materials and supplies.
  • (optional) Come with an idea for a story, poster or image/message you’d like to convey in a meander book.

Instructor: Susan Callan, a long-time enthusiastic student-and-teacher of Book Arts
