Students will learn the ancient technique of Knot-less Netting, that can be adapted for uses with many types of materials to make a wide assortment of products. A series of loops, or half hitches, are worked in spiral rows to cover an object of your choice. Students will make a necklace by weaving over beach glass, polished rock, or a pottery shard. These can be embellished with a variety of beads.

All materials are provided, but you can also bring your own small treasure from home. Even a small bottle, such as a one-shot liquor bottle can be covered with this ornamental technique. Kay will show you how you can add beads to the net on every stitch, or just here and there. This looping technique can also be used to create textiles such as shopping bags, fishnets, or fabric. In this fun and creative workshop you will also learn to make two-ply cordage for the neck cord.

Skill Level: All levels of basketry skill are welcome.

Materials Fee: $30 Per Student. Payable to BARN by cash or check at onset of class.

Please bring a bag lunch. BARN has a refrigerator to store your lunch in.

Instructor Bio: 
Kay Harradine has been teaching basketry throughout the US and Canada for over thirty years. With degrees in Forestry and Education from the University of Washington, she brings both ethnobotanical knowledge and strong teaching skills to her workshops. Kay encourages exploration of many types of materials and the technologies for their use. All her workshops are innovative and fun.
