About
This class requires completion of MIG #1, #2, #3 or permission of the instructor. Students must be able to cut, grind and weld. In this class you will learn to design and make a simple gate, arbor or trellis from standard available steel components.
This is a new and experimental class for the welding studio
The class is divided into two sections. The first session will produce a design and materials cut list for the student’s proposed gate, arbor or trellis. The instructor(s) will assist in the design feasibility developing the cut list. Material samples will be available for consideration. This session is mandatory for the class.
Based on the cut list the student or BARN will procure materials. Cost of the materials will be borne by the student. If BARN procures materials for the student there will be a 25% mark-up. BARN procured materials must be paid for by check at the February 20 session.
The second section occurs on two successive days: February 20 and 21 from 6:00 – 8:30. There will be an assisted studio scheduled after the class to help participants finish their projects.
The work sessions (February 20 and 21) will be spent on layout, cutting, bending and welding and grinding your project under the guidance of a professional and artistic welder.
There will be a safety briefing at the start of each session.
There is an additional $20 materials fee for additional steel up to 5#, wire, gas, PPE and consumables that will be added to the price of this class when you register.
BARN will provide Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
Students must wear long sleeves and long pants of natural fiber and closed toe shoes (preferably of leather). No stretch garments. Dress warmly, the welding studio may be cold.
