About
Learn the art of monotype screen printing in this five-hour workshop in which you'll make several unique prints on fabric using water-based ink and silkscreens. Screen printing is an ancient method of transferring pigment to a surface. Your instructor, experienced printmaker Dana Harris Seeger, will guide you through every step of the process. Monotype is a “one-of-a-kind” print, so each time an image is created using either the screen ink or water-based media, the image will change. All aspects of screen printing will be covered including what materials to use for the process, how to properly set up the screen for printing, what types of inks can be used, and how to heat set for washing the fabric.
Here is the agenda with some learning outcomes and demonstrations:
- Brief talk on the history of screen printing, what types of imagery students can expect from different methods, and how to use the screen for a range of results.
- Demonstration of proper set up, including screen prep and image design.
- Demonstration of creating an image with water-soluble materials as well as with water-based ink and how to print a one-of -a-kind image.
- After lunch, you'll create your images and print your designs.
- After cleanup, we'll have show and tell.
