BARN is delighted to partner with the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona for this online youth class!

Embark on a virtual musical journey in this interactive educational program for kids ages 6–10. Participants will discover new cultures by actively participating in music making, crafting musical instruments, and virtually exploring MIM’s exhibits with up to two designated tour guides! This class focuses on American blues and zydeco music. Participants will craft harmonicas, spoons, and a washboard with a MIM-assembled craft kit. Instrument-building kits must be picked up at BARN in advance of class. Participants will also need scissors.

MIM began with a vision to create a musical instrument museum that would be truly global. Realizing most musical museums featured historic, primarily Western classical instruments, MIM’s founder Bob Ulrich (then CEO of Target Corporation) was inspired to develop a new kind of museum that would focus on the kind of instruments played every day by people worldwide.  Today, MIM has a collection of more than 8,000 instruments from more than 200 world countries. The galleries reflect the rich diversity and history of many world cultures. But music and instruments also show us what we have in common—a thought powerfully expressed in MIM's motto, 'music is the language of the soul'.

• Registration will close Sunday, February 7th.
• This class is for youth ages 6 to 10.
• To register your youth, please enter your name and then the name of your youth in parenthesis.
• Kits to participate in this class will be available for pick up at BARN beginning 2/10. You will receive a separate email when these are ready.
• This class will be taught via the Zoom video conferencing program. For a great video on how to use Zoom, watch this tutorial.
