About

Take your introductory class — where you learned the art of block printing and creating repeat patterns by confining your design to a square — to the next level by using other shapes (triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, etc.)  and additional colors, combining a completely different block design, and even using a key block for greater variability. The results provide even greater opportunities for variations in repeating patterns. While printing with other shapes requires greater focus, you'll practice and build creative confidence and skills in printing new designs.

You'll once again take home hand-printed fabric with your own unique design along with the skills to continue exploring the process beyond the workshop at home or BARN. Sewing will not be a part of the instruction but suggestions may be offered.

Instructor
Christa Schoenbrodt

Christa, a life-long Middle Tennessean, has lived a life of creativity. Surrounded by family members who were always stitching something – whether clothing, quilts, or embroidery – her creative expression was often more about exploring fine art. Paper was often her preferred surface not only as a print-maker but as a graphic design and illustration studio owner (Studio Haus). During the early days of the Covid pandemic, she learned the artistry of block-printing repeat patterns and textile design–skills that merged perfectly with her design sensibilities. The slower and more experimental pace of hand-printing repeat patterns presented great surprises and opportunities to accept the “imperfections” inherent in the artistic process. Christa creates unique textile designs using not only block-printing processes but also silkscreen, digital design, cyanotype, and mixed media techniques.
