Offset woodturning is a technique that transforms the lathe into a power carver to create a variety of shapes such as an ellipse, a triangle and a soft square. These shapes are achieved by changing the centers of a rotating piece, causing the turner to take off wood at only certain points on an object as it spins.
Offset turning can be used to make a variety of objects, such as furniture parts, boxes, tools, utensils, candlesticks, instrument necks and more.
In this class, you will learn to use a roughing gouge and a spindle gouge to create two shapes that you can use later in a variety of ways to create unique details in projects that range from functional furniture to sculptural objects.
