**This workshop will be conducted via live streaming with Zoom.**

Masking and revealing is essential to story telling and will be played with to create a stage from a cereal box. Looking at historical forms of Japanese and Victorian paper theaters we will explore news ways to tell a story with cut papers as an unique artist book. Participants will learn different techniques of papercutting and how to design a stage for a story to develop. Stop animation, video inclusion and live performance will be discussed. Tips, tricks and resources will be provided.

Supplies you will need to have on hand:

  • cutting mat
  • xacto knife
  • blades 11 and extra blades
  • tape
  • glue
  • stapler
  • US letter size paper
  • tracing paper
  • origami paper and card-stock
  • recycled used Tyvek envelops (USPS, or UPS)
  • old magazines and newspapers
  • Optional: any art supplies you have

Details:

  • Registration for this class will close on Friday, Jan. 8th.
  • This class will be conducted via Zoom. For a great video on how to use Zoom, watch this tutorial. Please make sure you have the most current version of the Zoom software.

Instructor Bio:

Béatrice Coron papercuts stories to create public art, artist books, wall art and animations. Born in France, she lived in Egypt, Mexico and China before moving to New York and starting her artistic journey. Her Manhattan studio is the base of all her papercut experimentations.
