If you have ever taken a workshop from Anita Mayer, you know this workshop will offer a rich experience in surface design techniques and creativity.

This is a hands-on workshop creating, designing, and completing a passport/boarding pass holder while learning fabric painting, beading, stitchery, shisha mirror and lining methods.

Participants will learn about how to combine fabric colors and textures, sources and materials suitable for beading, fabrics that are appropriate for lining, and ways to use simple embroidery stitches in creative ways.

All of the techniques used in this class are applicable for use on clothing or accessories.  The instructor's collection of these examples will be displayed.

Materials: $40 for kits of materials (melton cloth, embroidery floss, mirrors, beading needle and sewing needle, beads, fabrics for lining, cord for necklace, fabric paints, foam brushes, and handouts).

Material fee will automatically be added during registration for the workshop.

Instructor Bio: Anita Luvera Mayer was introduced to looms and weaving by her mother-in-law, a well-known Seattle weaving instructor.  Clothing designed and worn by Anita always relates to ethnic garments with the finishes and embellishments done by hand.  Her work has been included in national and international shows and one-woman retrospectives.

Her garment “Rags to Riches” was selected from  6000 entries for inclusion in the Fiber Arts Design Book #7. In addition, Anita’s series “Mantles for Women: Rites of Passage”, a collection of six garments, was  the focus of an exhibition “Life Passages: Women, Dress and Culture” at the Beach Museum at Kansas State University.  This series has been donated to the university by Ms. Mayer and the collection will be integrated into the courses in the Women’s Studies Program.

Anita presents workshops and lectures throughout the United States and Canada and  is the author of five books with her articles appearing frequently in major fiber publications. Anita's book, Clothing from the Hands that Weave has just been republished by Echo Printing.  Her studio is located in Anacortes, Washington.
