About

Make a stunning wooden pen in this class, which is open to both beginners and those who already have some pen-turning experience.

If you are a beginner, you will learn safe use of a lathe and its chisels and put those concepts to use as you make your first pen. You will also use a drill press to prepare your turning blanks.

If you already have some pen-turning experience, you can make a high-end pen and opt for more expensive wood, such as koa, burled or spalted wood, or stabilized wood. You will learn advanced finishing techniques, resulting in a pen of a quality that typically retails for $75 or more.

Details:
  • Beginners are welcome.
  • For both beginners and advance students, an additional fee of $10 to cover materials will be collected online when you register and pay.
  • If you decide to make the high-end pen, which uses more expensive materials, please bring cash or a check for an additional $15 to the class.
Instructor: Oscar Barbo has been a woodworker and turner for more than 25 years. Oscar is well traveled, learning his turning in Hawaii, where he relished making pens from the local Koa wood. He often uses rare woods and non-wood materials like bone and antler. He is  looking share his skills while promoting pen design.
